SORN? instead of 12 months road tax

Is it cost effective to only tax a motorhome for a shorter period and then use a SORN for the time the vehicle is not used (say December/January)?  Has anyone else done this.  We are new of motorhoming and are always looking at ways to cut costs. Steve
