Mayday vs red pennant
On our way to a weeks holiday to Belgium, a few people started flashing their lights going past me on the m20. After pulling over, we discovered that although our lights worked when we set off, 4 hours later they had packed up. Being in mayday, I thought
"no problem". Called mayday, who were brilliant on the phone. Gave me an eta, which was met. This was as good as it got! The guy who came out made me uneasy with his first line "I'm no good with electrics"! He proceeded to break the 13 pin connector on my
car, and diagnose a fault with the electrics of my 4 day old caravan! after nearly 2 hours leaving my engine running, his suggestion was to go to halfords in the morning and buy a trailer board and attach it to the bad of said new caravan. I was not impressed,
nor convinced. Luckily, my dad has fitted plenty of towbars, and was willing to drive from Birmingham to Folkestone in the early hours. Within an hour we had isolated the problem to the wiring between the car lights and the socket on the car (nothing to do
with the caravan). I then called red pennant as my over started that morning. The guy they sent, identified the exact problem within minutes, my dad went and found a new relay, and the red pennant guy fitted it and we went off happy(ish).
I guess my point is, how can two services from the same club be so different?! Needless to say, mayday will not be renewed, but red pennant will always be taken out.
P.S. wonder if I will get my half tank of wasted diesel back?!!!
