Which Sat Nav and why...?

We are thinking of buying an up to date Sat Nav with European maps as it seems cheaper than updating maps on our existing one.      What do fellow members view to be the best option and why.    We cannot run to paying for the Caravanning and Motorhoming
type which are around £350 so any other options or advice would be welcome.
