Waste Water Outlet(s)

Can anyone explain why 'vans are fitted with two waste water outlets when there are three sources of that water. 

I thought it might be that the shower and washroom sink combined so that would be one outlet giving soapy water which might still be considered suitable for hedgerow disposal, while the kitchen sink water (which might be contaminated with food waste) went
a different way.  However, it is shower water that exits seperately.

Not that it matters, as just about everyone uses a "T" or "Y" piece to put them both into the same tank.  So why do we have more than oue outlet at all?

[Note:- This thread is not intended to become a long running argument about whether one should use a "T" or a "Y" or even have them all plumbed togegether somewhere in the dark recesses of the 'van.]
