I have just recieved my renewal for car insurance through the club, from devitt insurance brokers,  the policy had gone up by £58 even though my car has devalued by a £1000 pounds as it is another year older.

While I was talking to him he said has your vehicle got parking sensor's yes i said, factory fitted he said that they would have to charge extra aswell, because it has sensor's which were optional on my car so they would count as a modification well i cancelled
the insurance renewal which was £476 minus the new charge for parking sensor's which would have gone on top of the £476 it was £418 last year which i thought was dear enough; so i have insured it with tesco with the same cover for £351 a saving of £125 it's
true what they say it pays to shop around,   so if any of you have had your renewal i should see if you can get cheaper else where.

Parking sensors should reduce the posdibility of a minor accident and any insurer charging extra is having you on. The club insura nce is a brokerage and it would not be their decision to charge.

If an insurer charged extra for a tow bar they ripped you off as well. It in theory reduces the risk as those towing have less accidents according to the statistics.

Every Insurance Company attempts to automatically renew your policy every year, usually at an increased premium. I guess it's because some people don't bother to check.

I also find that there is a big difference between organisations like the CC, M&S, Tesco etc. They are NOT insurance Companies and just lend their name to a service provided by underwriters who immediately decline anything slightly risky - you had an accident
last year sorry, you live near a river, sorry, you have a medical condition, sorry.

I always have home, caravan and both our car's insurances on automatic renewal. The reason is simply 'lest I forget'. True the companies send a renewal a few weeks before. As I can be away over 7 weeks I may not be at home to recieve it. I usually remember
    but - not always.

I was watching a programme a couple of weeks ago,    and they were saying that one of the reasons for the recent increases in vehicle insurance premiums,   is that the extra sensors and anti crash "radar?"is normally fitted just behind the very vunerable
plastic bumpers and are very expensive to replace

Premiums have risen over the last few years, partly inflation but also the fraudulent injury claims, cash for crash and the so called claims management firms who take a large introductory fee for passing you to a solicitor when you could have done that yourself.

I agree that premiums have risen but there is also more competition so the insurers have to try and claw some back by increasing premiums at renewal time. I don't believe this has anything to do with increased cost, it is a slightly underhand way of putting
the price up in the hope that you either don't notice or can't be bothered. Many people don't want to spend three hours saving £30 or so, their time is more valuable.

The actual problem is that to get the business some companies are charging below cost or with little margin. To make this up they then need to get an increase at renewal but lose out because the policyholder has gone elsewhere to someone else undercharging.
Pretty silly really but that is life.

We have renewed yet again with SAGA for our M/H. We did the usual ring round of the big favourite companies first and not one of them could come anywhere near the renewal from SAGA. When we then spoke to SAGA we got a further discount for 'loyalty' we then
asked about their European/UK 5*  breakdown cover, went through everything to see if it covered what we wanted it to and got another discount for taking it out at the same time as our insurance. All up including breakdown £302.00.Smile

Write your comments here... SAGA have a good reutation so you are lucky if they give you the best deal. The problem is it will not work with them for everybody so we all have to do our own homework.

We had our towcar with the Club insurance 3 years back, one of those save at least £25 deals, but it did of course shoot up the following year, so we moved elsewhere.

Have today insured our Smart through the Club, again on the save at least £25 deal, no doubt we will need to move that elsewhere next year.

    Cover is good though.

I've only ever had one car insurance quote by the CC and they were way off. Never ried them again.

...I agree we all have to try and get the best deal with the best cover. I was pleasantly suprised when again we didn't have a hike in the policy, I know it happens with some companies and with Saga too, just grateful for another year at a good price.

Just renewed my insurance so though I would give the club a chance. They were way out until you click the box which activates the £25 less than your current insurance offer.

This gave £25 less than my existing quote. Happy days? Not really, clearly this is a one off offer and next year you are likely to be hit with a massive increase. That and the fact SAGA beat not only the quote from my existing insurance AND by more than
£25 AND they protected my NCD for no extra charge.

As a new CC member I asked for a car insurance quote and was told just over £1000 and that with more than 10years no claims. I didn't bother discussing it and renewed with LVE for £380.

Having done the meercat bit and seen the variation on the quotes offered I am beginning to wonder if it's all just a big scam.

Insurance seems to be based not upon risk but what number they think would be good to offer today.

Then add a bit according to what day it is.

It is a bit like buying your cat. You can opt for a Dacia for next to nothing or a Rolls for a second and third mortgage. On the face of it they will both get you from A to B but it is how they do it that makes you choose the right one for you. To be the cheapest usually means that something or somethings have been sacrificed and it can be claims settlements or service so I would certainly ignore the cheaper quotes and look at what seems to be more common. On that basis you will almost certainly be in a better position if you need their help. There are bargains out there like evrything else but unless like me you have spent near fifty years in the industry I doubt you will know which they are.

It must depend on your car, age and postcode as my car insurance with the club is as cheap as I can get and with better cover!

Car Insurance makes no sense, my wifes car is insured with the CC as it came in cheapest with the appropriate cover. Yet my car quote was way too dear with the Club and Landrovers own insurance through Allianz beat everyone.

Next year it will be all different again.

Premiums can be affected by different companies results but basically they alter premium levels usually up as the syatistics indicate they should. This means different companies alter their rates at different times so the best deal can vary even from day
    to day as things change.

I would like to alert members to the dangers of paying inflated insurance premiums.

As I insure my motorhome with them,I decided to give the clubs insurance an opportunity to quote for my car insurance this year.

OH boy it came in at £468.09. That's £280 more than who I have now gone with.

Do yourselves a favour, shop around and use a cashback site like Top Cashback or quidco.

    Quite a Saga. surprised

Do remember that with insurance like everything else you tend to get what you pay for so the cheapest deal may not always be the best.

I do try comparison websites when renewal comes along but use them more to negotiate my premium down as the lowest quotes are often with firms I would not touch. You might want to look on here to see the difference in the Ombudsman's findings on complaints. The percentage upheld vary from 15 to 72% for different companies in general insurance where you will find you car and caravan insurance.
