Hi All I ensure my towcar with Saga and they tell me that in the event of an accident they will not recover my car unless I pay to use their breakdown service. My breakdown is covered by my nationwide bank account through National breakdown.I like Saga they
will cover my (in the event of a write off) new cars complete replacement for upto 2years with no extra charges .Not sure what to do.Bob

What's the question? Your car insurance is via Saga & your recovery is via your bank Undecided

But your insurance company insure cars, not recover them Undecided Like wise would you contact your recovery firm to pay for repairs
    after the accident?

Seems straightforward enough.  You "pay" some other company to do the recovery through a deal with your bank. Neither Saga or your bank come and cut your grass as you do not pay either of them to do so.

If you have an accident either the police or you can instruct a recovery company, then when it is relased to the repairers or the insurance company if written off the insurance company pay the recovery, that's what happens when we release cars we've recovered, the customer doesn't usually pay, breakdown cover will not always recover accident damaged cars,

In 2000 I was involved in a RTA, car undrivable caravan not towable, after dealing with police phoned my breakdown company and in 45 mins a flatbed wagon towing a trailer turned up; caravan on wagon, car on trailer and taken home (160 miles). Then phoned each insurance company, they arrange for the car to be picked up and taken to garage (then written off), caravan transporter for caravan to be taken to dealer; all I paid in the end was the £50.00 excess for the caravan repairs (new chassis and front end)

Seems to me that by asking you that question they are trying to sell you their breakdown insurance. No doubt the saga rep that you discussed your car insurance with is instructed to try and sell you extra policies.

Thanks Simon yes I went with Saga because I did'nt have to pay extra for my (GAP Insurance )on my new car.In trying to get a good deal to cover every eventuality. What an insurer gives with one hand they take something back with the other. Bob
