Disco/Twin Setup issues
Hi All,
Just taken the new van out for its first road trip and my first experience of towing. It wasnt the most enjoyable thing I have done. Seems the caravan was pitching a lot and the disco felt like I was getting kicked in the back.
People on site said problems proberbly oringated from loading issues. We have been on the CC course but thought we had done it right - obviously not. I am hoping there are those out there who can help.
Our outfit is a coachman alser twin towed by a disco 4.
So my questions are:
1. When setting the tyre pressures of the disco should they be set for heavy load. There is only me the wife and the dog in the car and the caravan.
2. What should the ideal noseweight be on a twin axle. I have read all the other forums questions and am non the wiser. The Caravans Max load is 1900kg and the 7pct rule I have heard people mention is 133kg which is greater than the max hitch weight,
so that wont work. We currently have it about 95kg.
3. Total actual load is 1860 according to the weigh bridge.
4. When van was delivered it had an AWD motor mover fitted, so they couldnt use the spare wheel carrrier and just dumpted it under the bed. We have moved it as close to the bulkhead as we can so its as close to the axle as we can get it
As for load most of the stuff is near the axles. Front bench lockers are virtually empty and there is not much other than the wheel under the bed.
When we bought the disco bought it for the caravan and most people said you will not even know you are towing with it. Well this is very definitely not the case, so what are we doing wrong? Is it normal to feel lots of movement behind you and to feel like
you are being kicked periodiacally whilst watching the disco's bonnet rise and fall?
Please help!
