Gross train weight

Hi I am new to the idea of caravanning and havent purchased a van yet.

I own a nissan almera tino 2.2 diesel with gross trian weight of 3190kg.

if the maximum weight of the van and the car is over the gross trian weight for the car can you decrease the overall weight either from the car or caravan to stay within the gross train weight or is it just calculated by the MAM of both the car and van?
