Fridge wiring - Pin 10 > Pin 9 Constant Feed.
My towing vehicle is a 2011 VW Touran and whilst it has 13 Pin electrics it doesn't supply power from Pin 10 so I have no power to my newly acquired Hymer Eriba fridge which is expecting power from Pin 10. This lack of power connection to Pin 10 of VW vehicles
is quite common by all accounts and there exists, at extra charge of course, an additional wiring loom. My dealer was unable to give me a price on this item at this time although my local Independent garage advises that 'it' plus fitting is relatively expensive.
Models supplied with electrics directly from the factory on build do not have this problem I am told. That, however, does not really help with my issue and this post is requesting confirmation or otherwise of something else that the Independent garage also
told me, and that was that it is a relatively easy exercise to change the internal wiring of the caravan so that the fridge expects, and receives, power from the vehicles Pin 9 (constant feed) as opposed to Pin 10. I am of course aware that this could lead
to a flat vehicle battery if one forgets to disconnect the feed with the vehicle parked up for any lengthy period although I do not anticipate this being the case in for our travels. The Eriba Triton comes with a Schaudt CSV 300 Power Unit if that assists
at all and any advice would be gratefully received. Thanks.
