Can awnings cause caravan leaks?

I ask this question because the last two vans I have owned, have both sprung a leak from the nearside rear of the roofline. I use a porch awning, and wonder if in strong wind conditions the awning pulls the rail away from the side of the van, allowing water
ingress.Has anyone had a similar experience?
