New Canine Illness affecting Clumber Park

We had a weekend break booked at Clumber Park in the near future which we were really looking forward to as we had a great time there a couple of years ago.

However, we have reluctently cancelled following a warning from friends who live in the area about a disease which has killed several dogs in the last few weeks and quite a few more since Xmas.

It is called Alabama Rot (as it is similar to a disease discovered in Alabama several years ago) The infection seems to enter the dogs body through minor cuts or scratches and the dogs come out in elongated ulcers of about 4cm. The virus enters the dogs blood stream and attacks the kidneys. The dogs die within 2 to 7 days. There is no cure for this disease.

It was first discovered in the New Forest in 2012 but has spread to several areas in the UK. Like the Seasonal Canine Illness, it seems to affect forests and woodland areas. This disease seems to run from December to the end of April and the general feeling is that the mild winter may have made it more virulent.

Advice from vets is to wash and dry your dogs feet after walking in woodland.

Apparently there are warnings about the disease at the entrances of Clumber Park.

Has anyone who has recently stayed at Clumber any news of this disease? I don't want to risk losing my dogs to this disease and have rebooked onto a different site

If you type in a search for Alabama Rot, you will get more information on this horrible disease.
