Littlehampton - ideas for dog walks, pubs etc

Hi all.  We will be going to the Littlehampton site - have read some of the reviews (not all as lots!) but what we've read sounds positive.
 Just wondered if anyone had any ideas about good local dog walks and dog friendly pubs. Is the walk to the 'front' on a busy road?  Don't know the area at all and would like to visit the South Downs - any suggestions which villages are worth a visit etc.
 Thank you.  (One dog is elderly so has been bought a pushchair to cope with some of the walking, he's probably not that impressed but at least it's brown, and not bright pink).
