How to get the best from Leisure Battery?

Hi All

We have been using our van for the 6 month mark now but have always used electric hook up (although we the leisure battery) - might seem a silly question but when only using the battery should the electric sockets work? When testing the battery, I get the
lights and heating but no power to the sockets...Should I be switching the fusebox to something else?
