Seasonal Pitch - Awning
Hi All
We have opted for a seasonal pitch for the next 12 months due to work commitments. My hubby will be staying at the pitch every week for a couple of nights at a time and we will probably use at weekends 2 out of 4. We are debating whether to erect our full
awning and leave up permanently or is that asking for trouble. Pitch is fairly well sheltered and awnings are allowed to stay put up, just concerned whether it would be wise e.g weather...Does anyone have experience of having a seasonal pitch and if so, did
you leave the awning up?
Thanks

We have many friends who have seasonal pitches , and they all leave there awning up. Although they have bought the best they can afford heavy weight canvas type awnings complete with storm straps never taken off , not those nylon bag looking type that are
so Light wait0 -
I think I'd second Rubytuesday's friends' idea.

Yes, we were looking at investing in purpose built seasonal awning, was just concerned at their durability in all weathers! Thanks

If its only to be used a few days a week and the odd weekend
1st thought, is an awning really needed.
2nd thought if answer is not sure, then wait and see.
3rd thought is I'd probably not erect and leave an awning up unattended over winter.

Our niece has just bought van for seasonal pitch 99% of the vans on site have large heavy duty awnings up and stay up all year, the site rules allow this (but you must have insurance ) we did ask has there been a problem and none reported as yet
must say being invited into a few awnings they are unbelievable wood covered pallets on floor vinyl lay or carpet on top leather sofas big t v 's
they look like a large lounge you have at home unbelievable how the heck they keep them warm in winter ....but that's another

Hi
We keep our van on a seasonal pitch on a site in South Wales, near the coast, for about 7 months a year. We have an isabella awning fitted with good quality storm straps, even in summer we get storms which gives the awning a good shake.
We keep our awning up all season, we use screw in dog lead holders to hold the storm straps, we leave them slightly slack so when the wind blows and shakes the awning the straps are not pulling on the holders.
We also use some 5 litre cans filled with water with a small rope up and over the roof rails of the awning, just inside the front panels. Again we leave them slightly slack with the cans on the floor, the idea is that if the awning starts to lift, the weight
of the cans will hopefully be enough to catch it.With the awning exposed to the elements for this time, the awning will fade and will need reproofing from time to time.

A mate of mine had his caravan on a seasonal pitch all year. He had an awning, but it was well strapped down (I think maybe two straps).
He did say that plenty of people had their awnings wrecked in strong winds on the site.
Personally, I wouldn't bother with an awning....just something else to worry about.
