Mains water connector-pressure valve

i have been recommended not to use a mains water connection with integral pressure reducing valve. Apparently there have been 'reports' of the valves failing resulting in damage to caravans' internal plumbing. The connectors which fit into an aqua roll with
float stop valve   were recommended.  can anyone comment on these 'reports' with any objectivity- to date we have not experienced the caravan awash but am I now being overly scared by the rumour mill!

    I have heard similar stories from time to time, but have never experienced the direct water inlet.  We have always used the Aquaroll with a 'ball-cock type' valve.  This works well for us.

    We use the direct hose and turn off the pitch water tap off when going out for the day & at night.

    There isnt much difference using either method really.

    The unavoidable fact is that should the water flow shutoff valve fail then the consequences between a directly coupled system and and indirectly coupled one, could be very different.

    With a float operated stop cock failing then the Aquaroll floods and the pitch gets soaked.

    With a pressure regulated stop cock, if that fails then if it has not an integrated safety valve, itself fault free, there is the potential to presurise the van's water system up to the supply mains pressure. That pressure is very likely to be above what the system and its components can stand and something will therefore give. That might be simply a pipe coupling pushed off and flooding the van or the boiler splitting and again flooding the van.

    One system is fool proof with at the worst the site getting flooded.

    The risk of the other writing off something expensive and doing a lot of damage to the van is debatable, but the consequences are IMO very different.

    So depends on your level of faith in things never going wrong.

    Ive used and use both. For the reasons stated above, I usually only use the direct method when my ball cock hose does not reach, and usually turn off the water when going out.
