Haycraft Site in Dorset, small pitches?
Morning Everyone, i noticed a report on small pitches at Haycraft Caravan Club Site in Dorset and had thought that all Caravan Club sites had the uniform size pitches so you always knew what you were getting when you booked somewhere new! Can you please
let me know what you think as im booked in for two weeks in August?
Cheers.

I don't know haycraft,j, but I'm guessing from what you say that it may be like Cirencester Park. There some of the older hardstanding pitches are quite narrow. There is room for a car and a van side by side or a van and an awning. But if you put your awning
up the car has to go sideways in froint of the van. Having said that, there are also plenty of the newer wide pitches as well.0 -
Just to confirm that not all Caravan Club pitches are equal in size. It's the spacing in between which should now be equal.

This is always very subjective. I was not impressed by Haycraft. Some pitches are OK, but many are poor. The lower part of the site is under large trees and sees little sun. Frankly, I didn't like it - see my review - and will not be back. However, the surrounding
area is special.0 -
We particularly liked Haycraft, it was one of the first sites we went to with our larger 7.3m van, rather than our 6.5m and I don't recall any problems finding a suitable pitch. However, we do not have a full size awning and are fairly relaxed about wether
we put up the roll out or not. I think one of the problems with almost all sites is the rigidly inforced 6m spacing. Because of this it occasionally results in the marker being in a ridiculous position. So that if you pitch to it there is insufficient room
for car and barrels on one side and more room than needed for an awning on the other. Really these should have been designated non awning when they introduced the spacing.0 -
Bigger pitches are on the higher level. Lovely pretty site tho. The last bit of journey it's a narrow country lane with a few passing places.
Yet another site where the club demonstrate their inconsistent approach. Although the site leaflet says:-
As this site is normally fully booked, and due to the narrowness of the approach road, you are asked to vacate your pitch by 12 noon on your day of departure.
The earliest arrival is 12:00. Not sure why, other sites with less challenging approaches are 1pm. I am not saying there needs to be an hour gap. Just why can't we have some consistency.

Although the larger pitches are on the higher level, the lower pitches which are smaller, the grass between them is wider which maintains the correct gaps. Your car is parked across the front of the van instead of the side. There was a large Buccaneer witha
large 4x4 parked on the lower pitches last week with no problem. The advantage of the lower level is they are less affected by the wind, which gets up a head of steam fairly often.0 -
What ever the club decide I am happy to stick to, after all it is a rule and we all sign up to those. As you can clearly see from my post, it was purely about consistency. Whatever the club decide it should be adhered to, the only common sense required, is compliance with the rules.

Hay craft currently the approach road is single track uphill for about 500 yards but anyone coming down should be able to see you and there's some passing places along the way. There are couple of commercial campsites along the same lane. The pitches vary
greatly, it's awning caravan car set up in the top section which is ok if youre fortunate to have one of the few wider pitches. The smaller ones mean that once you've pegged the awning guys down you brush against the neighbours car when walking across the
front. They get a bit grumpy if you park on the edge of the hard standing and a bit on the grass even though some have been fortunate to get a grass pitch, not a hardstanding with up to 40mm stones that stick up through the awning carpet and which have bent
some of my rock pegs. The lower level does require one to park the car at the nose end of the caravan pitch. Will I return probably not, the area is great but I think I'll give a CL or commercial site a shot next time.

So pleased that you will not be returning to this site it gives us a chance who love it to get a booking. See our review from our visit in May. We have visited this site 7 times since 2001 and it has never failed to please.
