VW T5 Towing Performance?

Having posted this on the motorhome section with no response, I have resorted to asking caravanners.

Has anyone experience of towing a caravan with a motorhome conversion VW T5 (California, etc)?

 I am sure I have seen several on site pulling caravans and would welcome any views such as capabilities, best engine size, manual or automatic (DSG?), 4-motion, SWB or LWB etc. Is a T5 capable
of towing a recent Swift Conqueror 645.
