Parking in driveway

We currently have a caravan we keep in storage but are now thinking about changing to motorhome after summer.

I would like to park in our drive but it is quite steep at 12.5 degrees for about 5 metres. I know I'll need to measure the rear of any potential motor home for clearance but my concern is clutch problems with a 3.5 or 4.25 tonne weight and FWD trying to
back it in/up.

anyone have experience of this type of issue that they would like to share ?

Easiest solution is have a strong anchor point set in top of drive, and use a power winch between anchor and tow bar fitted to rear of motor home.

then you won't have to worry about the clutch or auto box if it happens to be an auto.

The early X250 Ducatos and Boxers circa 2007-9 had horrendous problems reversing up even a gentle slope. Clutch slip and burn was the order of the day and I'm not sure the current models are a lot better. Is it possible for you to drive in and reverse out?

We had Compass Avangarde 180 year 2009 .First problem was grounding I reduced the angle between pavement and drive with wooden planks second after reversing a couple of times the clutch was starting to burn So decided against drive way parking Now got a
Bailey with Al-Ko chassis and never even attempted to park it on driveway

I would be cautious about parking on my driveway. When the MH is not there it may signal to burglars that you are away. Just a thought, unless you have other adults living at the house.

As I am sure you are aware it is not illegal to reverse on to a highway but whilst many do it can cause problems.  The idiot that nearly killed one of our neighbours did time in jail for his stupidity.

I have known for many years that it is illegal as well as stupid but this is the first time I have ever heard of someone being prosecuted for it. Pity it's not policed more.

.....and when your car is not there as you are at work.....or on holiday.....as big a give away every day......

Many thanks for feedback. Will consider parking up at storage if we do decide to change.

Fiat's problem with clutch judder when reversing is a thing of the past with a fix being offered to owners affected. The Policeman at the CC Q&A session said most burglaries are by opportunist thieves, not people who sit and watch your house every day to
see if you are on holiday. The exception being those with really big houses or thought to have significant items of value because these may be targeted by the small number of professional thieves.

I struggle to reverse my Fiat up a slight incline. My son, who drives a van as aprt of his job, just floors it and shoots up without any problem. I drive on and reverse off.

I'm not sure the 'fix' was a complete success, Aspenshaw. I'd still be wary.

Interesting the comments regarding security of property when you are away. As a habit of a lifetime, we always put the car in the garage so in theory unless there are windows open or lights on it is difficult to tell who is at home. We do have space to park
M/H on front drive but also pay for storage. We then vary the time at both on and off not always going off on a trip from home. Sounds awful, but our primary reason for trying to cause confusion on occupany is that although we do live in a respectable area,
there are one or two neighbours who are considered to be a little ' on the shady side" so it is them we are aiming at. Unless of course another neighbour informs them that we are away! We do what we can and trust that helps some.

Depending on which MH you choose, but all front wheel drives are rubbish at steep slopes, especialy in the wet, so you will probably have to reverse up.
