Skegness Sands site dirty laundry machines
we have just been to skegness sands affiliated site, i would give it 5 stars for pitches, toilets , showers, BUT the laundry machines are 1 star, the hair dressers next to the laundry use the machines and they leave the tumble drier full of hairs from thier
towels trapped in the door seal, stuck to the inside of the door, we have seen on other sites people useing the machines for dog blankets, but these machines were uncleaned.

Did you raise the issue with the warden/manager/owner, Zider? What was the outcome?
Being an AS it won't be under the direct jurisdiction of CC.

Friends of ours went there last year same problem then , it was reported to the wardens then, but they haven't got eyes everywhere , a lot of trust in the members treating facilities correctly is taken for granted, if someone had an allergy or even asthma
this could make them very ill

We had a similar problem earlier this year. It turned out to be someone using a washing machine put in ther dog blankets. Mentioned to the warden who was just as disgusted as us and had the job of cleaning the machine. Why don't folks leave all things as
they would wish to find them???If the dog blankets do not have muck on them I do not see a problem as it is the same as washing a blanket for a human being. Anyway the washing machine should wash and rinse the blanket thoroughly anyway.

Surfer....Surely the point being made is NOT what the machine does to the blanket but what the blanket does to the machine...
It may be that a dirty hair ridden dog blanket might be more than many machines are designed to cope with.

We wash our dog blankets at home every two weeks and the dogs are bathed and washed at the same time. Our dogs have their own towels.
All our dogs are long haired and we have never had a problem with our washing machine.
Before any one asks, we hardly ever use Club sites due to them being too expensive in comparison to CLs.
BTW I can understand an objection if it is a really stinking blanket with perhaps dog mess on it and that is very objectionable however who would have a stinking dog blanket in a caravan as the smell must be overwhelming?

At home I put dog rugs and horse rugs through our washing machine. No problem if you rinse well afterwards.
However I suppose in a communal machine there isnt ususally a rinse option, and most people wouldnt want to pay for a full load just to run it empty to wash the machine out. If I came to a machine that I wanted to use that had dog hair in it I would just
wipe it out I think.0 -

Commercial washing machines as on Club sites are well up to coping with dog hair - but in the event of other "accidents" to dog bedding that might not be the case. I had a sickly dog recently on site and bundled the blanket into a bin bag - sealed it and
took it home a few days later - I wouldn't dream of inflicting that on others on a camp site. Plus there are usually large signs telling you not to use the machines for dog stuff!0 -

There are also people who have allergies to animal hair/fur so that's another reason for not using the machines for animal bedding. I think if machines aren't clean the wardens haven't been checking and the site owners should be contacted.

By the same token considering the price you pay to wash the clothes the washing machine should clean and rinse properly!

I agree Surfer, the machines should self clean to a certain extent but they also need some manual cleaning eg the door seals have to be cleaned properly. A bit like fluff not being removed from tumbler driers, as it's a public facility it all needs frequent checking by the staff.
edit I rarely use the laundry facs on CC sites but have always found them clean and tidy. I would also speak to the wardens if I found things otherwise. I don't know how big the Skegness site is but I assume it's quite a large commercial operation?
