Ballooned battery

Hi All

I have just noticed the mover on the van was getting to near on useless while backing it up the driveway at the weekend and noticed the 85Ah leisure battery had ballooned up, i have changed to a 125Ah but have read in a few places now that when a car battery does the same its because the alternator is on its way out and pushing more vaults in than required so the battery overheats...im sure you know whats coming and this isnt a car battery but before i install the new battery i dont suppose this overheating "if thats whats happened" could have been caused by the onboard charger by any chance? if so is there a way to check if it was the charger?, proberly paranoid and the battery was shot when it arrived with the van but better safe than skint again Worried
