Comfortmatic - leaving in gear?

We are due to get our new van at the beginning of May.  This time I have gone for the Comfortmatic gearbox on the Fiat.  Showing my age here but I was always taught that you should leave your car in gear when parking up.  Having used auto cars in the past
they have always had a - P -park facility but I can see that the Comfortmatic does not.  Can anyone tell me how I can leave the Comfortmatic in gear when parked up (especially on a hill) or is this notion a thing of the past and I should be relying on the
handbrake to work.
