Archie's Camping - Windows 10 App available
A new update of Archie's Camping (Campsite POI's and other information, for more than 31,000 campsites)
Important news since the last update is that it is now possible to download the Archiescampings app for Windows 10!! You can use it on your phone, tablet, PC and laptop so it is easy to plan your trips at home. During your trip you can use it off line on your laptop, tablet and phone too. See the website here, Archies Camping (click for link) and download more than 31,000 campsite POI's or find the link to the new Apps.
In this update there have been lots of changes in the database of campsites. Many new campsites have been added, this time mostly concentrating on sites in Sweden.
And last, but not least, please don’t forget to report all missing campsites, and any other wrong information or failures in the database.

I have installed the App onto my desktop computer to give it a test run. One thing I didn't realise but easily solved is the need to have windows maps downloaded onto your computer. Once that is done you can click on the map to find the desired area you
wish to investigate campsites. In the UK it seems to have all CL's and CS's listed. The closer you drill into the map the clearer the map becomes. Clicking on the name of the campsite opens a separate page in your web browser where you can explore facilities
in greater detail. IF ACSI ever decide to stop producing the DVD this could be a good alternative and cheaper!!!David

BTW, anyone not familiar with downloading the maps, as I wasn't. You need to go to settings and put maps in the seach box at the top of the page. Then select Download Maps for offline use, then select Europe and download the maps for the various countries
you need.David

For the cost of £2.99 I have the app on my laptop, desktop and mobile phone. With downloaded maps you can use it anywhere. Good value, but I feel they could use a greater selection of icons for the different types of site.

'They' is just 'Archie' himself, (a retired teacher) and a few other volunteers such as myself.
Can anyone with any helpful suggestions use the 'Contact' button to feedback to 'Archie' who, if he can, will take them on board and the website and App will be better for everyone.

I have already given Archie a couple of updates on campsites which are or will be no longer campsites. He is always very gretful for people contacting him. I don't know if Landyrover is refering just to the UK? A lot of the sites listed are CL/CS sites which
of course have restricted access as they are members only. It might be an idea for these to have a separate colour to highlight their member only status.David

Hello everyone,
let me first introduce me: My name is Ben, and I'm the developer of the Archie's Camping Windows 10 app. So I'm not 'Archie' himself
Furthermore, the iOS and Android apps are not made by me, so I (probably) can't answer questions about them.
For the questions which came up:
Regarding the icons: I didn't know about the CL/CS thing (I'm from Austria). This is information which Archie needs, as at the moment these campsites are not specially marked in the data he provides me and therefore I cannot assign them a special icon or any other type of tag. I will inform him about this wish but I am not sure if it can be fulfilled.
To navigate from another position than your current location, follow these steps:
1) In the Archie's app for Windows 10, click on a campsite and hit the "Navigate to" button (http://fs5.directupload.net/images/161102/8bz9klph.png).
2) Another app, the Windows Maps app, opens. In the top left corner a box where it searches for the route is shown. There is a small pen in it, where you can edit the search. Click it. (http://fs5.directupload.net/images/161102/fag2j2ur.png)
3) Enter another location in the "From" box (http://fs5.directupload.net/images/161102/gzfq5e2n.png).
Since Archie's App uses the Windows Maps App to navigate, it can only uses features availabe in there. And intermediate points are not available unfortunately.As far as I know, the Archie's app for iPad/iPhone needs an internet connection to get the map data.
I hope I could answer the questions. If there are more, just let me know

I didn't understand much of what Ben said, but was impressed that there are people like Ben doing this work. Thank you.
I know my own severe limitations and have just three ways of finding sites in Europe. If I have a signal I google Camping Name of Place, and see what comes up. If I don't have a signal I get the book out of the car door pocket and see what it says. If the
book isn't where it should be I drive into a village and look for a sign and an arrow - Pontaumur municipal was the most recent of those and they were pleased enough to see us.Are some of you making it all more complex than it need be?

There are so many different ways for finding a campsite. And that's good, so everybody can find the best for him. For example, I like to travel by bike, where I can't take a book of campsite locations with me - it's just too heavy. And it's not that easy
to go 10 more kilometres to the next town to ask for a campsite (and then find out that you missed it and have to go back again ...
)Since I have my phone with me anyways, I can use this as a source for campsites, besides a "normal" map.

Modern technology makes life so much easier. The ACSI app. on iPad is excellent and makes the books redundant. Archie's POIs for Europe when loaded on the SatNav take you right to the front door. It's just the Club's European guides that are not available electronically and when they changed the indexing to "regions" it became even more difficult. For an organisation with £100m turnover, it's a poor service, especially when you consider Archie's limited resources and what he has achieved.
