LED Road Lights on new vans

It seems that car electrical systems may not be able to handle LED loads from towed caravans. I am not sure why the particular characteristics of these lights are potentially a problem but I do wonder where the van manufacturers are going with this if the
vans they design cannot be hooked up to many new car models?

This has been mentioned in the Club magazine car reviews for some time now but no mention of a solution.
