Leisure Batteries - shocking truth
I was appalled at the results of testing a number of leisure batteries as reported in this month's magazine. Because of the construction it is impossible for the buyer to know what is inside and it seems that in most cases the battery is not as described. Shoddy construction with thin or small plates and bad retention system for the lead oxide paste which all results in a massive reduction in service life.
I hope that this testing gets the publicity it deserves and the industry addresses the problems. At the moment I would guess that many manufacturers are risking prosecution under the Trade Descriptions Act and personally I would love to see that happen.
For the record, the only two available batteries of satisfactory construction and compliant with the EN standard are Varta and Banner.
