Between the 6th and 20th June the DCOS & I enjoyed a great time down in Cornwall.

We stayed at a smashing private site in St Buryan nr Penzance but during the two weeks ranged all over Cornwall.

One day we were spending the day exploring the River Fal just up from Falmouth when I spotted a group of Obvious "Twitchers" pointing excitedly towards a sandbank in the river. I got my own Bino's out and saw a huge bird, bigger even than a swan.  So I asked
one of the twitchers what it was.  His reply got me thinking he was taking the  ****  Because he told me it was a Dalmation Pelican. Well I didnt believe him because apart from anything else it didnt have any spots!

But that night it was on local TV and it was a Dalmation Pelican. From the Black sea its onboard Sat Nav had obviously gone on the blink and it ended up in Cornwall. Really big with a reported 12 foot wing span!

All my bird watching friends are quite green with envy!

Very cool indeed! Did you know they used to be native to Britain a good few hundred years ago?

No I didnt.  I still cannot get over the sheer size of the bird. I wonder what happened to it after its rest on the Fal.
