Above and Beyond the call of duty!
I am often the first to criticize others for poor or unsociable behaviour. I try to set high standards myself and expect others to do the same, so often I am dissapointed. but the weekend before last I experienced kindness from another member which I shall long remember!
The DCOS and I were staying at Cirencester Park club site because from Friday the 19th July to Sunday the 21st July I was working at the Royal International Air Tattoo as a volunteer. Something I have done for the past 12 years.
I am sure that you will recall that that weekend was one of the hotest on record in the UK. Well on the Friday evening we were informed that the water supply to the entire site had failed at the pumping station, The site toilets were closed and none of the taps were working. Luckily we had some bottled water but that was all!
On the Saturday morning I had to leave for work early and expected to be away for about 12 hours. The DCOS was happy enough soaking up the sun, but our toilet was getting a bit full!
I got back at about 8.00pm and found that the CC had delivered to each pitch 12 litres of bottled water, courtesy I think of Thames water. But that kindness had been surpassed even by the actions of an outstanding neighbour.
Apparently it had been announced that the water would come on again at about 2.00pm that afternoon for about an hour only. This neighbour had worked out for himself, that I and another member on a nearby pitch were both working at Fairford and would not be able to service our toilets. So he came over & introduced himself to my wife and then offered to empty our toilet, and refill it with blue! Beat that for public spiritedness!
To my shame, I have temporarily mislaid his name, but he was driving a newish blue Honda CRV. I recall that he said they were from Hayling Island Nr Emsworth in Hampshire. So if you meet him shake him by the hand, - He deserves the caravanning VC! He could easily of walked on by!
Water was finally reconnected late on the Saturday Night!
