Am I the only car driver that regrets the loss of informative instruments on their cars dashboard?

When I started driving every car had a speedo, Fuel Guage and a temperature guage.

If you had a slightly more sporty car you also had all of the above, plus a Rev counter, an engine Oil Pressure Guage and an ammeter.

If you had a really nice car you also had an Engine Oil Temperature guage, and a gearbox oil temperature guage to add to your knowledge of your cars condition.

Today it seems you have very little except warning lights which tend to tell you much too late of problems stacking up ahead.

I grew up to know that my Jaguar engine must show 40 psi when hot, and not less than 25Psi at tick over when hot, otherwise you were heading for big bills.

I was taught to listen to a change of note through bends, signifying future wheel bearing problems. All these sounds and indications added up to future expenditure.

Today there is no real info of how the car is feeling and I don't feel so in charge as I was then.  Or is it just me being old fashioned?

Todays young drivers have little or no  situational/mechanical awarness.  So its little surprise to me that their driving lacks any real in depth awareness when the chips start to fall.
