Apple Mac?

Have got an iphone 5s and an iPad air, but now  I really do need to change my computer.  I have found that I rteally do not much like lap tops etc so wanting a proper PC but what?

Have looked at HP who seem to have some good ones but what to go for? wish it was more like buying cars where the good ones are well known.  Most now on windows 8 which I am not keen on but I expect will get used to.

has anyone got experience of current Apple Mac?  They look good but are they?  would value some feed back on this one.
