What its all about!
Just got back after two weeks in Darkest Cornwall, well actually at St Buryan Nr Penzance. Will be doing proper reports in the appropriate section where possible but as our mainsite was not CC cannot do it there.
But overall what was really refreshing was the attitude of wardens on both sites we visited.
The first was at Lydford just a few miles South of Okehampton. Actually intended as an overnight stay en route it has proved to be worthy of a visit in its own right. The wardens were outstanding not only in their welcome, but in their willingness to be helpful throughout our stay. Nearly all grass pitches it was so relaxed! Seeing the size of the pitches I asked if it would be OK to pitch across the pitch? The reply was "provided you maintain the fire safety limits you can pitch it on its side if you want!" Nearby pub fantastic. what made this site so much better was that it was an "Affiliated Site" not a club site. The lack of rigid CC club discipline causing wardens and inspectors to go about with tape measures to hand made all the diference!
We had gone down to the "Tower" caravan and camping site at St Buryan because our lifelong friends the Lewis's m,ad moved there in order to help out their daughter who had baught the site a couple of years ago. wow! A huge site spread over 5 very flat fields catering for a few static vans, a few ready erected large familty tents for hire, tent camping aeas and touring vans as well. Good play facilities for children. Only draw back was the Toilet block which was very 70's and overdue for refurbishment, but spotlessly clean nevertheless.
