Tyron bands

It seems many of us are having Tyron bands fitted these days, especially dealer supplied vans, and why not they seem a good idea.
Has anyone had a blowout with one fitted, what are your comments. If a tyre fitter is called out to you is it a simple process for them, and do they re-fit the band to the new tyre.
