Considering changing m/h due to illness for a fixed bed version and considering the Hobby.

Anyone got any experience of this m/h with opinions whether good or bad.

interesting take on a traditional layout....makes the bed area a bit more roomy but pushing the washroom forward extends the length a tad over the usual french bed layout....horses for courses and may suit you better...

are you handy to a Hobby dealer? is this a reason for the brand, as there arent that many dealers uk wide....

    good luck with the switch

Unfortunately not close to a dealer but there is a Hobby appointed warranty/repair centre 10 miles away.

We are looking for a fixed bed due to the better half's illness and liked the layout of the Hobby.

There are not many fixed beds that can take my 6ft 6" frame as this one can. The drop down bed being mechanical instead of electric is also a bonus.

do,ypu have any other dealers close(ish) to you, not that ive got anything against Hobby but just to come up with more options re the van otself and servicing etc.....

6' 6" is about 2m, so this (almost) rules out all uk type vans other than a transvers bed model....french doubles or uk singles will be woefully short (and narrow).

our beds are 2m long (80 cm wide) at the rear and the drop down is 1.60 wide and almost 2m long...

french or german will give the largest beds (as youve found out)....

Rapido/Pilote are of a good standard from the french market and Hobby/Hymer/Knaus are go-to german brands.....obviously along with Carthago....

i dont know if ypu are looking at new, but remember, there is an option of a one or two yr old van which will ease the pain of the change...

if it were me, od be looking at a two/three yr old Hymer or a nearly new Rapido/Pilote.

    again, good luck....
