Insuring a motorhome for commuting & business

Hi

We're looking to change our caravan for a motorhome (specifically a van conversion) and wanted to ask for some advice from other members about insurance.

We both work full time and one of the benefits of a small motorhome would be the ability for one of us to take it to work on Friday morning then set off straight after work. This would require the insurance to include "commuting to and from a permanent place of employment" for our contracted workplaces or "business travel" if we needed to go to another site for a meeting etc. We may consider selling one of our cars too if the motorhome could be used for a daily commute - absolutely achievable in a Fiat Ducato - it's not that much bigger than our current Shogun!

Also, my work requires me to stay away from home a few nights each week (I'm a Trainer for a national Government Agency) so it would be possible for me to stay in our motorhome rather than a hotel, saving money for my employer (and the taxpayer) and make me feel less like Alan Partridge ;-)

Looking at the CC online insurance page and having spoken directly to the C&CC "Clubcare" insurance helpline, it seems that commuting and business use are not readily available within motorhome insurance.

I appreciate that commuting and business use would make the insurance more expensive but this could be offset by selling one of our cars (both insured for business use) and therefore not having to insure a third vehicle.

What experience do others have of this? Is anyone else in the same situation? Is there an insurer or broker that would be good to talk to?
