Grit Rollers on Motor movers

The other day I noticed that the rollers on our motor mover where as smooth as a (************* own choice of item).

Did a little on line research re costs then read up in CT re fitting myself and decided it was a goer. Read a little more and did as suggested and checked with our local dealer who were £20 cheaper than online.

All good so far.

Ordered the rollers, paid a depost then decided to check if the bolts were seized (just in case I needed to borrow my brothers equipment for drilling out and re-threading etc), liberally applied WD40 to the bolts and gave them a tweak to see if they move.

Joy of Joys. All the bolts moved so I removved a roller just to have a look.

Now I come to my quandry!!

The steel appears to be very heavy duty and other than missing any grit seems to be in good condition and two things occured to me:-

1) does anyone re-grit rollers?

2) would it be possable to just run several beads of weld on the surface to provide grip instead of the grit?

Any comments or ideas would be gratefully considered.
