A sad state of affairs

There is a story in today's paper about a couple who have just managed to arrive in Lyon successfully, to watch Wales play. Unremarkable, except for the fact when they tried to watch them in  Lille last month, they ended up in Lille Belgium. Now I must confess
I had to check where in Belgium it was, and found it 160 km away from Lille in France, just east of Antwerp. Apparently they followed their sat nav.

Oh how sad. I must admit I know there's a  Lille where the Eurostar goes but I didn't know there were/are two Lille in different countries .  Goes to show you can't beat proper maps!

Just make sure when heading for the ferry it's Portsmouth, "old" Hampshire not the new one. Wink

I remember a story about an American couple who travelled to the UK to watch a Chelsea game and got a cab to Stamford Bridge ... in Yorkshire

IIRC a HGV  once followed his sat nav to a little place called Portsmouth in Lancs instead of Portsmouth Hants when he landed at Southampton.

We have been asked in Leeds Bradford Airport, by Americans  'Excuse me, whereabouts do I find the castle?'  It's hard to explain that it is nearly 250 miles away!

We live near a small village in North Cumbria called Smithfield where we run a transport business on a number of occasions we have had eastern European HGV drivers pull into our yard looking for Smithfield Market so they can deliver the fresh fruit and Veg
the are carrying. The look on their faces when we say turn left out of our gate take the first right, left at the T juction then after 6 miles join the M6 south and follow all the way to the M1 then onto London approx 350 miles is priceless as most of them
have come up from Dover Yell

It's like Gillingham - Kent or Dorset or St Ives - Cornwall, Dorset or Cambridgeshire?

Like Queensferry in Flintshire Wales and Queensferry in Scotland.  Just around 260 miles apart.

Has anyone any idea how many Nethertons there are in the country? I can think of two within West Yorkshire.

Anyway, at the end of the day, why didn't they follow the road signs.  As Lille is a city, there are plenty of signs in the northern France areaUndecided
