Summer Awnings and a Pending Hurricane Force Wind

Yesterday afternoon, we left a very breezy but sunny seaside retreat.  Whilst packing up and having that final cup of coffee, I began to watch the newly arriving families for their traditional autumn school break – and the rise in site prices!!

At first I was surprised at how many families were erecting full size summer awnings and then my surprise turned to somewhat concern.

Whilst millions of people were being warned and to prepare for heavy rain and suggested hurricane force winds, with gusts to exceed 80 mph and even PM David Cameron, tweeting, saying that he had chaired a meeting/discussion on plans to protect people from
the storm and the Met Office suggesting 20 – 40mm of rain ‘might’ fall within six to nine hours in the wettest areas – was my concern of damage and god forbid injury as a result perhaps a little over the top?

My thoughts then turned to the financial aspect to this observation.

How many of these happy go lucky families have club insurance and how many of these families will be placing a claim on Monday morning for a damaged caravan or awning?

Is this just a sad and somewhat gloomy way of looking at things or is there a more ‘serious’ aspect to this subject!

Some may say the responsibility lies with the site staff informing individuals of the pending weather – me – I totally disagree – this solely falls on the responsibility of the individual and respective actions – your thought’s??….
