Loss of engine power – Fiat Ducati

As referred to in another post we own a 1999 (Marquis) Mirage 5000 motorhome on a Fiat Ducati Maxi base with 2.8 litre diesel engine.

Whilst joining a motorway and travelling at about 40 mph there was a loud ‘boom’ noise from the engine compartment, the was a significant loss of power and the engine sounded different. Whilst
the accelerator was pushed to the floor it was a struggle to get above 45/50 mph on the flat and going uphill was even worse.

I’m not sure if this is likely to be a turbo problem or fuel valve related.

Any advice would be appreciated.
