Awning Pegs Hammer in or Drill in?

I am a new caravanner (Swift Challenger 540) and I've recently bought a Kampa 390 awning and need suitable pegs.  Have read previous discussions, but may I ask for recommendations for a set of soft ground pegs and a set of hard ground pegs.  We will go to
'normal' sites in UK and soon to Loire Valley in France.

In soft ground, would T-shaped plastic pegs, hammered in, provide the best pull-out resistance?  Surely smooth steel spikes will just pull out.

In hard ground, are steel pegs best, and if so, is it worth bothering with drill-in spikes, or for a reasonably able-bodied soul, are hammer-in steel smooth spikes fine?

I see steel pegs with screw thread for sale which are hammer-in type.  Surely it is pointless to have screw thread when the spike is hammered in?  Is it not true that screw thread is only useful on a drill-in peg (spike)?

Would be interesting to hear the views of experienced folk.  Thanks.
