Changing to LPG on the continent for cooking

We were abroad in August and the two 6kg propane gas bottles ran out before we got home and you can't change them on the conitnent. We plan to change to LPG and have a quote for the work, which the garage says can be done. it isn't cheap. But I think we
can then use LPG for cooking and fill up locally on the continent. Any advice on whether we should do this and /or advanatges of having LPG. Can we use the tunnel with an LPG gas supply for cooking?
