Turned away and made to feel like outcasts!!!
I'm gutted that this is the first and possibly the last post I will be putting on here. Being a member of the caravan club we have enjoyed many sites across the country in our motorhome and have felt privilege to be part of community of fellow caravan/motorhome
owners who share the same passion as me and my family. We have many family members part of the club as well as some working as wardens.
We have just come home after a last-minute trip to Windermere on Saturday and we decided to do a bit of wild camping and find somewhere to park our motorhome. We notice a large amount of caravans and motorhomes pitched on a field just on the outskirts of Windermere.
We decided to go and take a look. There was no signs to why they were all there so we drove on looking for someone to speak to. We thought that as the field had plenty of room they wouldn't mind us stopping the night and leaving first thing. A women appeared
from a caravan and with a very unwelcoming voice said 'can I help you''. My husband explained the situation that we had 2 small daughters and as it was getting late would she mind if we parked up just for the night.
Without blinking she replied "this is a private rally" and that was it, she walked off, even after seeing me with my 2 year old struggling to stay awake on my knee. As there were no clear signs we weren't sure who the rally was and therefore although accepting
her decision thought it was abit harsh. After googling it I found out that this was a caravan club rally and also this was our local group!!!! If she had just explained who they were not only could we prove that we were fellow caravan clubbers but that the
rally was a northern group rally which is is our local group!!! So I could of proved that to and we would of wanted to stay, paid some money and meet everyone.
I fully understand that people want to feel safe knowing that they are pitching with other caravan club members but even if we weren't members, we are a married couple with 2 toddlers and wouldn't of posed any threat to the group and would be been really thankful
for a little piece of grass just for a few hours!!!!!
We honestly felt like outcasts and the women who ever she was made us feel stupid for even asking!!
I don't think I am being unreasonable thinking she was harsh on us and I thought the local groups were about being part of a community. We proudly display our caravan club badge on our windscreen so I'm sure she would of seen it. I also think some caravan owners
(not all of them) can be funny with motorhome owners which is pathetic!!!
We could of had a really good weekend with everyone if she had not looked down on us and pre-judged us!!! So much for human good will!!! Not a good representive for the club!!!!
