We seem to have fallen in love with Buccaneer caravans and are considering one but before any final decision I thought I would just canvass some opinions from members who may have them or some experience with them. Assuming the necessity of a suitable tow
car is dealt with, how have you found hauling a monster van around the UK and possibly abroad? The newer versions at eight feet wide I would have thought could be an issue and would certainly make route planning even more essential. I have read somewhere that
these are seasonal caravans, towed to a site and left there all year but I can’t imagine everyone has that view or indeed does that. I would appreciate any feedback on your experiences please and thank you in anticipation.

Regards

Roy

    Hello Roy,

We are now on our second Buccaneer and this one is the 8ft wide model. We do not use Seasonal pitches and use our caravan for touring in both summer and winter. Both ours have been 2000 MPTLM and tow like a dream. We do use a Tom Tom Caravan/Motor Home Sat
Nav instead of the factory fitted one in the car one as you can programme in your dimensions to ensure a safe an appropriate route. Like all caravans you can get good and bad examples and it's always impossible to get your dream layout, there are always compromises.
However,  for us the Buccaneer provides most of what we want. It's comes with a solar panel and you really need it as a good charged battery is essential for the self levelling system and motor movers which are a must on a 2000kg van! The current model has
underfloor heating to compliment the wet central heating and its a good addition if you caravan all year round. Unfortunately they have moved the water tank under the rear bed on the new model which reduces carrying space. Our biggest niggle is the master
switch which is on a row with other switches of the same design and yet is not marked so it's easy to turn off in error. Given what you pay its disappointing but a small annoyance and something you can resolve yourself. Don't worry about the weight and size,
it's easy to tow providing your have the right car and it's so roomy inside once you are on site. We take it abroad via the channel tunnel and have no issues. Whatever you get just enjoy  your caravanning
