The Nightingale
Nightingales, famous for their beautiful nocturnal song, are long distance migrating birds, that spend their winter in Africa and come over to the UK in April, leaving again from July to September.
Unfortunately the Nightingale is in decline in England and as such the RSPB are campaigning to stop the destruction of a site in Kent which is one of the last remaining strongholds of the nightingale. More information can be found on the RSPB website.
I would be really interested to hear more about the nightingale from other members. If anyone has managed to be lucky enough to photograph a nightingale it would be great to see the picture. They are most often spotted in Essex, Suffolk, Norfolk, Kent and Sussex, but as with any migrating bird they can sometimes be found further afield. Have you spotted a nightingale this year and if so where?
