Insurance and UK residency

Hi all, we are in NZ, last year we came to the UK for an extended trip. wanted to buy a motorhome, but when I checked on insurance (as it is a requirement there) I found insurance companies would not insure me as I have an NZ licence and also as I don't
have UK residency! I did find one eventually, at 500 pounds per month.... we ended up hiring one for a week only. I want to do a 4 to 6 month trip, possibly bring the motorhome back to NZ at the end of it as they are cheaper there. does anyone have a solution
to this problem please?

    There is a similar question in the 'Caravan and Motorhome Chat' which suggests that contact is made with Bob North, an Australian resident who keeps a car in UK.
