Had a test drive of the newest CRV today. It was the petrol version, as they didn't have a diesel available.

What a disappointment, I've been a fan of Honda bikes for years, but the car was nothing special IMO.

Towing at 85% gives you under 1500KG for the petrol engine, the diesel equivalent (2.0 and 2,2) would be in excess of 1600KG

The auto box was very reluctant to change down when accelerating from 50ish. So much so, I had to floor it to make it kick down, which would be a bit extreme when towing. Good points were the built in sat nav, reversing camera, radio, towing stability assist (couldn't test this out, obviously)  and keyless entry,

Comparing it to my VW Passat, it just didn't match up in performance, comfort,or practicality, the Honda being a part time 4x4 just wouldn't be worth it for day to day use. Fuel consumption of the Honda petrol was about 25mpg over 200 miles, mostly motorway cruising at 70 and using the 'eco' setting. The spec says it should be 38mpg??? Claimed mpg of the diesel is 50mpg.

These are just my personal views, I'm not looking to dis the car, it just wouldn't be my choice of towcar.
