TV and Radio Presenter, Matt Baker, was at the Caravan & Motorhome Show in Manchester yesterday. I managed to give him a call for a quick chat to find out how he was getting on.

You’re on The Club Stand today at the Caravan & Motorhome show in Manchester. How’s it going and are you enjoying meeting our members?

I’ve been having a chat with members today and I opened the show on The Caravan Club Stand. It’s just really nice to be able to talk to likeminded people about where they’ve been, what their plans are and what they’ve seen. What a great community and there’s a real good feel here today!

Do you think caravan and motorhome holidays are a good way to explore nature and wildlife and get the most out of the great outdoors?

Yeah I do, I really do. These types of holidays are key to going out and exploring the countryside, whether it’s a bit of sledging in the snow, enjoying the local wildlife, these are all memories of childhood that are accessible to you as you get older, and when you get older you can look back and really appreciate the fun you had. Plus it’s a secure home-from-home. You can have exciting wonderful fun and go off and explore. Your view is changing constantly but your surroundings stay the same.

We have approximately 2,500 small CL sites across the UK. Many of these are on farms and offer peace and tranquillity in the heart of the countryside. Do you think this is a good way for people, not only to enjoy the countryside, but also to support local communities?

Community is a good point and it’s important to appreciate the people who live and work in the countryside. So if you’re staying on one of these sites go and explore and find out what they do. That’s one of the reasons I love my job at Countryfile, because I get to meet these people who have an important role in the local community. It will certainly enrich your holiday experience.

It was great chatting to Matt Baker and for anyone who missed him today, he will also be at the Caravan, Camping and Motorhome Show at the NEC in Birmingham on 17th February. I hope to catch up with him there too so let me know if there’s any questions you would like me to ask him relating to caravanning, motorhoming and exploring and enjoying the countryside and the great outdoors. Smile
