Isle of Wight
Evening all, I definitely fancied a 2 week holiday break over on the Isle Of Wight in 2017. We are a couple travelling on our own , however a friend has suggested tonight, that there isn't enough to do on the Island to warrant a 2 week stay. Have you been
& what are your thoughts please.

It's what you make it. People live there and I can't remember hearing of any throwing themselves off The Needles due to boredom.

Never been to be honest, but the one thing that I seem to recall is that the ferry prices are expensive in comparison with other island hops? Osborne House must be worth visiting.

Two weeks is an ideal length of time. Lots to see and do and time for relaxing too. As takethedogalong has said it's very expensive to get there and even more so with a caravan.
We've been quite a few times before we had the van. Priced it up last year and over £400 for a return for August. Makes France on the shuttle far better value.

We have been to the Island on numerous occasions,the crossing is over the most expensive sea crossing for the distance,there are deals to be had last year out of the peak holiday season(May) via the cc was £125 return Car/c/van and two of us,no charge for dog,there are numerous things to do which could be done in a week? but two weeks will give time to relax as well,it all depends on what things float your boat,we tend to use Southland cc site and have since before it was cc

Went this July for 12 nights sailed from Southampton with red funnel book with cc not much over£100 stayed at south lands we loved it plenty to see and do we like walking lovely coast walks weather was brill it's like an old fashioned holiday plenty of little
resorts to visit Cowes is lovely go for it we loved it0 -
Hi Pussycat, we have been twice this year, once for 4 days and the 2nd for 6 days. We didn't by any shape of form do anywhere near all that is on offer. We like to see things at leisure and enjoy the time to relax as well so I would say 2 weeks is ideal.
Try to go June to August as out of season you will find some places are closed. Tracy0 -
Have had two 2 week stays first was Cowes week followed by a quiet week second trip was two weeks on a very nice CL. I would say plenty to do and see for a two week break and feel we have "seen the island" after a total of four weeks.
Worth researching "what's on" for whwen you are there for local events, we went to a charity dog show/fair and to the garlic farm event as well as watching a lot a sailing and spending evenings in Cowes (need to book in advance to eat out when hte regatta

We spent 2 weeks on the 10W a few years ago and loved it. There was more to do than we had expected and we never felt bored, there are some lovely little villages to visit and some loely seaside towns the Needles is a must see and it is nice to take a boat
trip out to see the lighthouse. Also there is a zoo and plenty of other things overall we had a great time and luckily the weather was good while we were there so we spent a bit of time in the pool on the campsite.Hope this helps

We're at the Southland Club site now. The island is ok, but this site is not for us. LelandI tree hedges in every direction, 10 feet tall and 8 feet thick. There is no view in any direction, and it's hard to find the sun when you can only use a few pitches
and the have to pitch as instructed. On arrival we had a choice of 2 pitches both in darkness because the wardens have taken so many pitches out of use to re seed them. Many pitches are covered in plastic to stop the pigeons eating the grass seed. There are
watering fountains connected to many of the taps making it difficult to get water. Even when it's damp or raining, the "water features" are on. Never again Southland!0 -
, Been several times ,using "Red Funnel" and their sites.Ca'nt beat it !! Slow pace of life.Good local produced food.Many pubs and
hotels/bars with live music.Waverley stays open all year.Tour from one side of the ialand to the other ,circa 20 min'.A couple of good large supermarkets (if needed) plenty of home grown produce.AND ,and the " GARLIC FARM " !! Localy brewed ales ,and grown
wines. Whats NOT to like ?? !!.

We went to Freshwater Bay for two weeks this year (non EHU next to the golf course). We had a lovely time. It all depends what you want. We love walking and so we walked along the coast past the monument to Tennyson and on to the Needles Old Battery(national trust) Very interesting especially the rocket testing station!! Then there was the walk to Yarmouth and back- again a lovely walk. Kayaking and fishing etc etc- we weren't bored at all. Everything on the island is fairly accessible inc Supermarkets and good shopping at Newport. However if your bag is bingo, clubs, restaurants (Plenty) and parties, perhaps it won't suit you.
