Hi , I have been looking at the club shop pages & have come across the 4GEE WIFI gadgets for when we are on the move. Retailing at £39.99 ...can anyone tell me how easy they are to use . if they are successful most of the time. Is it a good aternate to using
club site WIFI. I don't download films at all , but it would be handy to upload pics, internet , facebook etc if it was simple to use ?

Sadly, I have only got  3G phone and even though I tether it to my laptop would nonetheless like to read of others opinions.

I would certainly consider purchasing a 4G unit if most came out in favour.

So lets  hear it  - good or bad.

I'm not sure it matters what your phone is, RF. If I understand correctly, this gadget picks up the phone signal - up to 4G - and converts it into a wifi hotspot.

We have 4G compatible phones which work very quickly when 4G is available. EE led the UK rollout of 4G. though others are catching up now. However its growth is focussed on conurbations where it will be available to high numbers of people - which in the
main, we have found, doesn't include the rural areas where campsites tend to be found. We have a 4G router device with a 3 Sim to use as an alternative when EE isn't working, but we've not used it in a year. Its tariff is favourable in that there's a year's
use after your first connection. I think that for the moment, you won't find enough 4G on sites to justify the cost unless you buy it to offer an alternative network to your phone.

...mine only makes calls, no photos, email, Internet, etc etc so this gadget sounds good but I 'd like more info too!

As Jenny says, you'll only get 4G where 4G is available, and that's only generally in major towns......not where you tend to find caravan sites. In most places, your 4G device will only get 3G. It will then transmit a wifi signal that you can pick up on other wifi gadgets.

Phones tend to work better than these 'mifi' devices and can be set as a 'personal wifi hotspot' that you can pick up on other wifi devices.

You might be better off up-grading your phone to a 'smart' phone wih this facility, rather than buying one of those mifi devices.

You need to get with it  and get a smart phone .... the user needn't be smart. Even my Dad has one and he'll be 80 next. ;-)

we have the EE buzzard 2- seems to work well. Bought it at the show last spring so EE might be there again doing another promotion in Oct.

3G is the third generation of mobile internet capability. 4G the fourth. Each generation allows faster data speeds than its predecessor. If you don't have a smart phone then you are missing out on a lot of very useful, Internet and GPS services. Their inbuilt cameras are pretty useful too.

we both have smart phones with 1 Gb data a month with 3 network.     I also have a Huawei MiFi dongle which is not tied to any network.     For the UK I buy a 6 Gb EE sim that is good for 90 days once activated (Amazon) cost about  £14 to £16  works in most
areas as it will switch between the 4G and 3G signal and Internet can be used on both.    i have had good results most sites we have been to.

Most of the places I visited on my recent tour just about managed 1G if there was a signal at all.

Whilst it's a broad generalisation club sites often have worst phone signals than CLs. My logic being they are often surrounded by trees or in a dip, whereas CLS are often more exposed.

But to your point I can tether from my phone but I also use an EE osprey wifi box. I got a deal for 50gb/month on 24 month contract for £27/month. I travel for work too so it saves paying for expensive wifi that's often rubbish.
EE have a good network so if you can get 3G or above you can easily stream video and a large allowance means you won't run out. EE have sales a few times a year and that's the time to get it. Watch out for black Friday in November.

I prefer a separate box as it can stay in the van running for multiple people even if I go out.
