Just back from a lovely week's stay at Chatsworth. Wonderful surroundings, superb walks direct from the site and friendly, helpful wardens - no wonder it can sometimes be difficult to get a booking here.

But what was puzzling was the fact that appeared to be empty pitches on most nights of our stay. On a walk round late one evening, I counted 27 (yes 27!) vacant pitches. Yet the 'Site Full' illuminated sign at the entrance was lit up every time we passed.
How can that be?
