Do I need a swan neck towbar

I need to pick up a caravan for someone who has yet to get a towbar fitted. He has been informed that he needs an Alko swan neck. Can I use my regular towball which bolts onto a plate or can I buy a bolt on swan neck. Also will the Alko stabiliser work with
my tow ball. Any advice appreciated
