I can not wait for this years Holiday, we aim to set off for Scotland in July ,hopefully we can go to the following places , Fort Agustus , Fort William , Boner Bridge, Falls of Shin, Lairg, Ullapool, Malaig, Glen morriston, Glen Finnan. Kinlockbirvie, Oldshore more , Durness ,Tongue ,then the second week work our way back down the same route,and we aim to do a fair bit of wild camping in both directions , a full 14 nights away two days traveling ,it takes us around 13 to 15 hours journy time one way 

we did this last year and enjoyed it so much we thought lets do it again this year , you see we have done Scotland for several years with the exeption of two / three years where we did yorkshire , and every time we paid for a site where we stayed at Glen morriston was a£10. / night , the other a site owned by a crofter who charged us £5, / night no facilities only able to fill up with water when dark to stop the locals moaning . so wild camping for a couple of years .we know where we can fill with water free and any time we wish ,i tell you we are really keen and upfor it ,it is only January i know ,but boy do we need the Holiday .

It's good to have something to look forward to Golly.

 It does sound like a lot of travelling though but then that is the beauty of owning a motorhome.

Whilst up in Bonar Bridge have a look at Carbisdale castle. It used to be a Youth Hostel. Had several £40K statues in the main hall. What a place  - will never forget it. Locally known as 'spite castle' apparently built by a Duchess of Sutherland whose husband
had kicked her out so she camped on the edge of his land , building this castle.

Not sure when our longer holiday will be this year due to family goings on. We have three short breaks sorted including a Camping in the Forrest site for the first time.

Carbisdale is closed . it is to become a hotel for the rich .i went last year and got some great external pics , we camped in the grounds oppersite where the summer house thingy is .

ps the statues have been removed to protect them from water ingress as the roof leaks it is said £15m quid needs spending on it to bing it in to good repair . the main castle contains a heavy security presence 24/7 to protect from theft etc.

Our main hoiday this year is going to be split between Cornwall and Somerset. We have a week booked at Looe CC site and we are currently looking for a site in Somerset where we can spend a couple of weeks in July. We will also have various other trips throughout
the year including a few days in Blackpool and a week or so in Berwick.

PATMAU

We are going to Scotland July/August too.   Have done the 2 weeks up one side and down the other, but now retired can stretch it out.  This year we are going to a rally at Dalkeith Country Park with the Scottish Region of the C&CC.  Have booked tattoo tickets
for during our stay and are also looking forward to seeing some of the events for the Edinburgh festival and fringe. Should be a good trip.

Also off to Cornwall for June.

When is the midge season or don't you get them in the parts of Scotland you're visiting ?

Sounds lovely. We were planning to tour Scotland this summer but then we found out that Fairport Convention and Steeleye Span are on the same bill at Cropredy Festival this year, so we're heading south instead. A whirl round the Cotswolds, Cropredy then
down to Dorset (for some reason neither of us have ever been there, a great oversight, we feel). Haven't planned our return journey yet, but the M5 is our oyster!

When is the midge season or don't you get them in the parts of Scotland you're visiting ?

The midge season starts towards the end of May/ beginning of June up the West coast and can last well into October, depending on the weather conditions. The East side of Scotland doesn't suffer too much from the Wee Beasties but you will get them round the lochs, especially if it's hot and muggy.
