Ether alarms

Maybe we are panicking a bit but have bought an ether alarm.  We now have to get it plumbed in so to speak.  Anyone had any experience of setting this up or even having had an experience of ether attack.  I know the Orange route in France is notorious for
thefts but have not as yet ventured into this area.  What do other motorhomers and caravanners think?
